Scenario Based Learning Activity
Introduction
An indigenous family in Townsville owns and operates the Nourishing Bites restaurant.
The business takes great pride in producing delicious meals using only the best products, which
are all sourced from Queensland and the surrounding areas. The company specializes in raw-
style treats for health-conscious consumers and supports the quickly growing markets for
products that are free of gluten, dairy, refined sugar, eggs, and other animal products. For those
who are health-conscious, the company also specialized in raw-style delicacies.
Along with a wholesale bakery, an online store, a catering service, workshops, and
events, Nourishing Bites also runs a local cafe called The Nook. Customers looking for a healthy
substitute for breakfast, brunch, coffee, and other snacks now have a place to get them at The
Nook, which is only open on the weekends. The company strategy is hence built around the
creation of real, tangible goods and services. The agricultural and food industries' B2B and B2C
clients are then given access to these goods and services. Although Nourishing Bites now only
sells its products online and in-person, the business is working toward the goal of establishing a
nationwide distribution network soon.
This research was written to examine Nourishing Bites' current market position as well as
the internal and external factors that are predicted to have an impact on the company's plans for
national expansion. This study was created to meet this research requirement because the
company currently doesn't have a low-cost marketing option. In addition to the current market
instability, there are a number of new challenges to take into account as a result of the pandemic
crisis brought on by the implementation of COVID-19.
The Business Problem and Impacting Forces
3
Any discrepancy between the organization's ideal and actual conditions is problematic for
the business. This particular academic work's main focus is the "no budget marketing method for
statewide distribution" for the Townsville-based company Nourishing Bites. We will concentrate
on the effects that become apparent within the next six to twelve months.
Due of Covid-19's current predicament, it is much harder for businesses to survive in
today's economically competitive globe. In order to better comprehend the full scale of the
business challenge and its ramifications, we started by doing preliminary research. In the table
that follows, we list some of the internal and external forces that have been recognized as
possibly important in relation to the current business challenge. Additionally, these factors have
been categorized according to whether or not the current state of the economy makes them
predictable.
Nourishing Bites has between six and twelve months to invest considerably in improving
their supply chain and brand recognition, according to the facts provided in the article. The
Covid-19 regulations will make all businesses more volatile. Because to Covid-19, borders are
shutting, food demand is changing, and the supply chain is having financial problems. These
problems all add to the strain farmers are under. In the food and agriculture sectors, where quick
action may be necessary to ensure a company's continued survival, KPMG places a strong
emphasis on supply chain monitoring as a fundamental business practice . Saranga and Sreedevi
look at the immediate threat supplied by supply chain operational hazards when operating in an
unexpected situation. Therefore, it is crucial for a company to set up suitable risk reduction
strategies.

The management of the supply chain and brand recognition are two of the most critical
difficulties that organizations are now confronting. The Porter's Five Forces model, which
evaluates strategy within a competitive market, was also utilized to determine the aspects that
were most likely to be important given the temporal linkage of the business difficulty. This was
performed by identifying the factors most likely to have an impact on the business challenge.
The following matrix demonstrates the significance of supply chain management and brand
recognition in this specific operational environment.
Knowledge /Awareness of Supply Chain
Recommendations
As was already mentioned, the aim of this article is to pinpoint and investigate an issue
with Nourishing Bites' operations. As a consequence, several workable alternatives that can be
5
executed within the six-month timeframe specified for this project have been identified through
the investigation. In prior sections, it was mentioned that the supply chain and brand identity
were key components of the business problem. Only a small percentage of the countless potential
strategies and answers have been emphasized in this study because of how urgent the problem is.
However, the ones that have been highlighted are displayed below.
Recommendation 1
Increasing brand recognition is an effective strategy for attaining a competitive
advantage, according to Latif, et al., (2014). This tactic enhances a company's trust and
reputation. It depends on how well-versed the consumer is in the brand and their capacity to
recognize it in various situations. Nourishing Bites might be able to capitalize on its strong brand
awareness already and expand its audience to a national level by utilizing the wide audience of
social media, which is currently one of the most successful marketing strategies. Today, this is
among the most effective marketing strategies available. However, by charging astronomically
high prices for their goods and concentrating almost entirely on the "raw" market, Nourishing
Bites may have drastically restricted their market. The market is still quite modest even if there is
a growing desire for better raw materials. We anticipate that this will aid in the Nourishing Bites
brand's national expansion together with the price reductions. However, if national resources are
not protected in addition to those in the distribution zones, this goal will be hard to achieve.
Recommendation 2
One supply chain problem that could affect a company's operations is the potential for
labor shortages at the manufacturing level. One of the substances utilized in the production of the
goods is organic macadamia nuts. Because people lack the availability or the drive to work
seasonal jobs, there is a continual shortage of fresh workers each year. People's lack of
6
willingness or desire to work seasonal occupations is the cause of this labor shortage. Employees
must adhere to safety distance requirements set forth by the government while performing their
duties. These regulations have been put in place to reduce the spread of the Covid-19 virus. The
production process is slowed down by this rule, which also affects how quickly macadamia nuts
can be delivered to markets. Because Nourishing Bites can only legally get organic components
for its products, the number of potential suppliers is constrained. It is possible that if the product
price is increased in response to rising demand, the company's profit margin will decrease.
We must find additional sources of organic veggies to help with the solution to this
problem and to guarantee the ongoing success of Nourishing Bites. It is likely that organic
macadamias will be removed from the menu if they become prohibitively expensive until their
price drops. The government can offer tax benefits to people working in the industry as a way to
encourage agricultural laborers to give farmers dependable seasonal support. This would allow
businesses to maintain a steady flow of product delivery at cost-effective rates for customers.
Recommendation 3
Even if it could be challenging, effective product placement might help you in your
endeavor. There are several chances to promote the Nourishing Bites brand even with the
company's limited marketing budget. By using existing established local and national service
shops, like gas stations, to inform and persuade customers about the advantages of buying
organic goodies, it would be possible to increase awareness on a tight budget. Due to the
government's ban on Covid-19, an increasing number of customers are choosing to shop online
and place orders. Today, virtually everyone in every society has access to the internet. If they so
choose, Nourishing Bites may choose to devote a portion of their funds to internet advertising
and their own website. When potential customers visit websites promoting organic food, social

7
networking sites like Facebook or LinkedIn, etc., they will be informed about your brand and
reminded of it. Clicking on the links would take interested individuals to the Nourishing Bites
website, where they could learn more about the company's products, arrange to buy them, or
have them delivered.
Another low-cost marketing tactic that might assist build brand recognition is brand
integration. To do this, Nourishing Bites must persuade other organic food retailers who already
carry their goods to carry their goods both in-person and online. With this kind of marketing, the
brand becomes more well-known and customers and suppliers have more favorable brand
experiences (Jobber et al., 2019).
Recommendation 4
According to Athena Information Solutions (2020), the process of building the identity of
a corporation involves a variety of somewhat unimportant components that collectively
contribute to the bigger picture. Two of these components are as follows: maintaining an open
mind and providing funds for demand development projects in the short term. Applying this to
Nourishing bites would provide the brand with a low-cost marketing technique that could be
utilized to generate notoriety on a national scale if it were implemented properly. To begin, run
some test advertisements on social media and establish connections with businesses and
individuals that have a similar interest in leading a healthy lifestyle. Networking with other
brands such as Support Local Townsville and the Scoop Townsville is one example of a cost-free
strategy that is nonetheless highly effective in boosting business awareness. This kind of
exposure can be beneficial to both establishing a national presence and growing one's network.
