Monitoring Tasks
To effectively monitor the tasks that are involved in a project, you as the project manager should begin as soon as the project starts and then continue monitoring them until the project is completed (Miller, 2017). Throughout the project, the PM (project manager) is the member of the team who should distribute the tasks of the project to the team members who could perform the task best. The PM should also make sure that the assigned tasks are completed in a timely manner to avoid delays. Due to the position they have in the team, the PM is the one who should know the strengths of each team member and could help to avoid setting a team member up for failure by assigning them tasks that they are not equipped to handle. A major component of monitoring the tasks involved in the project is to make sure that the team is hitting the milestones
planned by the scheduling committee. Directing Resources
Once the project has begun, with the tasks assigned to the appropriate team members and the project milestones laid out to the team, the PM needs to make sure that the resources the team needs are allocated in the most efficient way possible. This can be done by creating a budget for each task and then combining them based on the milestone they are a part of. The PM should also be the one to determine the best route forward should one of the tasks/milestones either becomes more expensive than planned or takes a longer amount of time. The allocating of resources extends to more than just the finances of the project though, since they need to make sure the proper amount of team members are assigned to each task and the proper time is dedicated to completing the milestones. Eva Green is the director of Epic Systems Corporate, healthcare software company. In three months, a proposal is due for an electronic health record (EHR) system for Mercy Health Partners. For several years, Epic Systems Corporate has been developing new data mining system, a critical component in an EHR system that would be superior to any EHR currently on the market. However, progress in research and development has been slow, and Eva is unsure whether her staff can produce the data mining system in time. If they succeed in developing the data mining system (probability ), there is an excellent chance (probability ) that Epic System Corporate will win the $1 million contract from Mercy Health Partners. If they do not, there is a small chance (probability ) that she will still be able to win the same contract with an alternative but inferior EHR that has already been developed.
If Eva continues the project, she must invest $200,000 in R&D. In addition, making a proposal (which she…

Gantt charts include the time duration on the x-axis.
Gantt charts display the concurrent nature of certain activities.
Gantt charts more prominently display decision points.

a. List the activities that are likely to be recorded in a database related to hiring an employee.
b. Brainstorm what types of analyses you could perform by looking at the activities and time stamps for thote activities. Suggest three analyses that you could perform if this data was collected and put into a process mining dashboard. As you consider the analyses, think about analyses that would be useful to internal and external auditors, the HR Department and other groups.

Case Study 2: Forecasting Lost Sales
The Carlson Department Store suffered heavy damage when a hurricane struck on August 31, 2013. The store was closed for four months (Sept – Dec 2013) and Carlson is now involved in a dispute with its insurance company concerning the amount of lost sales during the time the store was closed. Two key issues must be resolved:
The amount of sales Carlson would have made if the hurricane had not struck; and
Whether Carlson is entitled to any compensation for excess sales from increased business activity after the storm
More than $8 billion in federal disaster relief and insurance money came into the county, resulting in increased sales at department stores and numerous other businesses.
The table below shows the sales data for the 48 months preceding the storm. The following table reports total sales for the 48 months preceding the storm for all department stores in the county, as well…

Question: Sunblessed Juice Company sells bags of oranges and cartons of orange juice. Sunblessed grades oranges on a scale of 1 (poor) to 10 (excellent). At present, Sunblessed has 220,000 pounds of grade 6 oranges and 150,000 pounds of grade 9 oranges on hand. The aver- age quality of oranges sold in bags must be at least 7, and the average quality of the oranges used to produce orange juice must be at least 8. Each pound of oranges that is used for juice yields a revenue of $2.25 and in- curs a variable cost (consisting of labor costs, variable overhead costs, inventory costs, and so on) of $1.35. Each pound of oranges sold in bags yields a revenue of $2.00 and incurs a variable cost of $1.20.

A recent report on executive awareness of and involvement in corporate pandemic preparedness by Michael Evangelides, principal at Deloitte Consulting LLP, most top executives and boards of directors are not engaged in the influenza pandemic planning process and won't give it equal billing to other potential disruptions until at least one of the following occurs:

Legislation or regulation emerges, requiring a high level of preparedness.
Shareholders and investors demand a high level of preparedness.
The financial impact of a pandemic on the corporation becomes evident.
Obviously, planners can do little to nudge along the first three prerequisites. But, fortunately, the fourth is in their sphere of influence. And it is worth pursuing, says Penny Turnbull, senior director of crisis management and business continuity planning at Washington, DC–based Marriott International, Inc.
