Hey Kaley, I found it very interesting that Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is one technique in which a single sperm is injected directly into an egg to facilitate fertilization. This method is fascinating since they are physically fertilizing the egg instead of the sperm cell having to navigate and do everything itself. Do you know the success rate of this procedure? Would you use this procedure if it was your only option at pregnancy? Hello Devinaire, I also found ICSI to be a fascinating technique. Studies show that the fertilization success rate is fairly decent with the average being around 75 percent, which is similar to the success rate of IVF (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) Treatment, n.d.). I would definitely consider this method as an option if it was a last choice for pregnancy, even with the risks involved. The main advantage of ICSI is that the chances of fertilization are higher than just IVF alone, however, some complications can exist such as possible damage to the egg during injection and impeding embryo growth (Is ICSI Better Than IVF, 2023). With those having difficulty getting pregnant, many couples will do whatever it takes. I feel like ICSI can be a helpful technique in addition to IVF.
