public health Question 16a: What is the difference between cleaning, sanitising, and disinfecting? Give Satisfactory some examples of cleaning and sanitising agents. response Yes (] | No O Cleaning is the process of removing visible dirt, dust and other soils from surfaces. It is typically completed with a cloth or wipe in conjunction with a detergent, soap or solvent. Sanitizing reduces the amount of bacteria on a surface, but does not kill or destroy bacteria. Sanitizing also does not kill or destroy viruses from surfaces. Rather, it lowers the amount of bacteria on a surface to a safe level as judged by public health standards. Disinfecting kills or inactivates both the bacteria and viruses identified on the product’s abel from surfaces. Disinfectants are the only products approved by the EPA to kill viruses on hard surfaces. Household bleach (chlorine as sodium hypochlorite) is active against most microorganisms, including bacterial spores and can be used as a disinfectant or sanitizer, depending on its concentration. The removal of visible dirt, dust, and other substances from surfaces is the process that we refer to as cleaning. In most cases, a cloth or wipe, along with a detergent, soap, or solvent, is used to accomplish this task. Sanitizing a surface will reduce the number of bacteria that are present on that surface, but it will not kill or destroy bacteria. Sanitizing does not eliminate or eradicate viruses that are present on surfaces. Instead, it brings the number of bacteria that are present on a surface down to a level that is considered safe by public health standards. The germs and viruses that are listed on the product's label can be eliminated or rendered nactive if surfaces are disinfected first. Only disinfectants have been validated by the EPA as an effective method of eliminating viruses from hard surfaces. Depending on the quantity, common household bleach, which contains chlorine in the form of sodium hypochlorite, is effective against the vast majority of germs, including bacterial spores. It can be used either as a disinfectant or a sanitizer.
