Hello Fellow Classmates and Professor, My name is Maxwell Schlumpf, I currently work for a Pennsylvania based company that is regional here in Pennsylvania. I have no experience in the correctional field. I am aware of the role corrections play in the criminal justice system. The goal of sentencing pertains to four areas, retribution, rehabilitation, deterrence, and incapacitation ( Sentencing and Corrections in the 21st Century: Setting the Stage for the Future. (n.d.). I think the future of corrections and goals of sentencing will focus on deterrence and rehabilitation. The reason is because deterrence is a form of prevention. If the crime can be prevented it’s a win for all parties. The future criminal, their victim, and the justice system. Deterrence can be met by interventional programs and mental health treatments and therapies. The second goal is rehabilitation because it can treat the individual for the primary cause behind the behavior that is associated with the crime.
