1. Basic Content of Session
I felt very unprepared about the direction to take this session. I first introduced myself and explained what
confidentiality was within our professional relationship. I further explained that anything said would be held in
confidence unless there was a concern for her safety or the safety of someone else. I asked her if she understood
this and made sure that she had no questions. I asked the client to tell me about herself so that
we could build rapport. She told me about her family and then started to discuss how she was feeling overwhelmed
and anxious trying to be a mom, wife, student and employee. She further discussed how this made her anxiety
increase and she is not handling it well. . I asked if she could wave a magic wand, what would her ideal life look like.
She said she would have time for everyone in her life and feel like her kid knew she loved them and that she wasn't
too busy for them. The client continued to explain how feeling like this made her feel inadequate in all of her roles.
After the client explained what this would look like if she had a magic wand, we discussed what the client had tried
before to work on this area of her life. She discussed how she sets a timer on
her phone to keep her on track and
writes herself notes to stay on her tasks. Other than that she hasn’t tried too much because it felt very overwhelming.
I confirmed what the client felt were the goals she wanted to work towards. She stated she would like to have quality
time with her adult child and her husband and also start working towards having some time to herself as well. I asked
her to brainstorm all the possible ways she could see herself reaching her goal. She struggled to come up with ways
so I made a few suggestions. One of the first things we talked about was how she felt she wasn't getting
enough sleep so she could start having a specific wake up and bedtime each day. We discussed her getting a
planner to help her set up a schedule; daily, weekly, and monthly and I
suggested
she also create time slots for
Family, schoolwork, work, and time for self-care. We went over some tools and resources that might help her with
time management skills such as; using the Eisenhower Matrix to set her goals and priorities. We went over
conducting a time audit so she can start by assessing where she actually spends her time. I suggested some apps to
help her stay focused and to block out distractions such as, FocusKeeper, Forest, StayFocused. I also suggested
Time tracking apps like RescueTime and Toggi. I also recommended she enroll in a free online 1 month course called
Work Smarter, Not harder: Time management for personal and professional productivity.
We ended our session
discussing what the client felt were her current supports. She talked about her husband and not having any other
family. She further discussed how she felt her faith was a large support system. I asked if she would like to integrate
Biblical perspective and prayer into our sessions and the client stated she would like that very much. Client then
asked if I would pray to end our session.
Dear Lord, Give me the insight I need to ask good questions that help my client move forward. I come before you
today seeking guidance and wisdom in managing her
precious time. In this world filled with distractions and
countless responsibilities, help her discern which tasks to prioritize and ensure she
make the best use of her time.
Grant her
peace and focus throughout her day. Help her to stay present in every moment, trusting in your loving
guidance. Guide her in the ways of wisdom as she sets out on her academic journey. I ask that only You be her
constant companion and inspiration, helping her to utilize her precious time wisely, with her family, at work, and in her
academic journey. I humbly ask that You bring order into every aspect of her
life. We pray these things in In Jesus’
name . Amen
So not to disrupt the session by taking complete notes during the session, I wrote keywords down that would allow
me to document after the session. Once the session was complete, I completed this documentation.
Next Session:
Saturday Nov. 25 at 10:00 AM.
