HUM6100 week 3 discussion 3 Hi class! Tuckman's model of group development includes 5 stages. These stages include forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning. I will use my experience as apart of Family Resource Partner team consisting of 6 individuals. The first step of Tuckman's model focuses on the formation of the group. Forming is the process of members joining the group and becoming familiar with one another according to Hamilton (2022). On June 27, 2022, we all were invited to the job location to meet and greet each other to get to know who we would be working with. At this meeting, we discussed the overall goals of the team, shared some ideas, found out things we had in common, and how often we would meet. This would eventually be the foundation of building a positive team relationship. The next stage in Tuckman's model of group development is storming. In this stage, team members have become more familiar with one another. Here is where conflict can arise. The differences in personalities, delivery, and changes in goals can cause issues. I can say, this has rarely been a case with our team of Family Resource Partners. We tend to communicate effectively and share ideas of the different methods and strategies we use to help clients in need. My group focuses more on collaboration than division to make sure families are receiving the resources and support they need. We all agree that conflict hinders success for our families meeting their needs. During the next stage, norming, they are not really any con flicts or disagreements. "Group members have focused on teamwork" (Elsey, 2022). In the norming stage for my group, everyone had established a clear understanding of their roles. For example, I took on the role of providing weekly affordable housing updates to the group, Another member took on the role of creating age appropriate games for the families that have multiple children in the home. Two other members were visiting local organizations and programs to share about our program and building relationships with agencies to possibly partner up with. Lastly, the rest of the members focused on partnering with agencies to help get referrals to our programs. I think the norming stage really set the Family Resource Partners up for the performing stage of the model. In the performing stage of the group model, a lot of excitement, happiness, and teamwork is experienced. The positive performance ensures that we reach a higher level of success with families getting the help and necessities they need to build better lives and connections with their families. However, there can be instances where group members do not reach this stage, according to Bonebright (2010). Lastly, there is the adjourning stage. At this stage, the team's goals are usually accomplished effectively and the finalizing of all tasks was done and documented. As a Family Resource Partner, this stage is usually not met due to families dropping out of the program or them needing more assistance beyond the 9 month span of the program. Ultimately, adjourning does not happen until there is an official discharge written up at the completion of the program. References:
