2 Benchmark - Code of Ethics Discussion In a recent meeting with my field experience supervisor, Terry DeHamer, LISW-S, LICDC, at Christian Counseling Associates of Eastern Ohio (CCAEOH), we discussed the value and importance of being professional and applying the code of ethics in our daily work. Terry impressed upon me the importance of putting God first and allowing the Holy Spirit to lead me in every choice – from the beginning of my day till the end. We discussed the imperative of “Do no harm” in our practice. I asked Terry who to consult and how to proceed in the face of ethical dilemmas. She instructed me to always pray first, then to consult the American Association of Christian Counselors’ and the National Association of Social Workers’ Code of Ethics, and, finally, to consult with her or another trusted colleague. Our dress code is “office casual”. However, on Fridays, we may wear jeans and apparel with the CCAEOH insignia or faith-based logos or wording. We are to conduct ourselves at all times as ambassadors for the Love of Christ and model appropriate behavior, at work and at home.
