Tempus per annum: Sanctus XVIII . This song was very calming and contemplating. It sounded very similar to a Gregorian chant, and made me think of scenes from within old churches and also Monty Python and The Holy Grail. I honestly enjoyed it more than I thought it would. Masse Pange lingua: 4a. Sinctus . The singing is very beautiful, and reminds me of choirs that sing in old churches, such as catholic churches. It gives me a feeling of calm, but also that it could be an illusion. The calm is hiding something nefarious or sad, like in a mobster movie. The Four Seasons: Violin Concerto in E Major . It makes me think of an orchestral performance in which some find peace and quiet, and others find engagement and rivetalia. It is a piece which makes me feel like I’m sitting in on a royal banquet, and am getting to peacefully enjoy myself amongst a large audience. Clarinet Concerto in A Major . It made me think of a springtime stroll through a field. It has a very light air about it, but is also very precise in its performance. I could see a scene where this song is playing, and we pan over a blossoming field, in which a girl is having a lovely picnic. Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-Flat Minor . This piece made me think of a very dramatic battle, that may or may not be occurring at the same time as an orchestra performance, whose attendees are blissfully unaware a battle is occurring. It has a certain gravitas to it, and makes me think of a conductor waving his arms with much gusto. The Rite Of Spring: Pt.1: Adoration of The Earth . This song makes me think of a grand medieval war happening between two opposing kings. It has a certain air of flamboyance and drama which I feel the fairytale kings and knights of lore once held. I liked the way that the horn (bugle?) permeates throughout the track to create bursts of musical color. My favorite piece of music from these 6 is: “Clarinet Concerto in A Major.” I like the tempo, the instrumentation, organization, and also the images which it invokes for me. I think that it shows great precision, while also being whimsical and almost “fairy-like.” It has a certain springtime quality that is why it is my favorite.
