While I do have many expectations and goals for this school year, this essay was an excellent opportunity for me to shift through all of them and discover which one’s were most important to me. After much consideration, I have decided on the following, which fill the pages of this essay. What I expect. I expect coursework to be a mixed bag of things when it comes to quality and difficulty. Some of the work will be engaging and fun to complete, some of it will require numerous hours of dull studying, and some of it will just be enraging. What else can be expected from the mixed bag of classes that is college. I expect that my roommates and I will have our differences and arguments, but over-all, I expect that we’ll get along and get to know each other very well throughout the school-year. I’ve already gotten to go play volleyball, dance, and run through the drenched Anschutz lawn in the rain with them; and I expect we’ll make many more memories. I expect that my family will come as a happy change from college life while I go home to visit for breaks, and I think that this time apart will help us grow together, and will remove the whole mentality of “familiarity- breeds-contempt.” Finally, what I expect from myself. I expect myself to work hard, make friends, become part of a community, and to move closer to God. Foremost, I expect myself to grow. I just hope I grow in the right direction. Now, my goals. When it comes to academic goals, I have only one goal, and that is to achieve all A’s in all my classes by the end of the semester. This may be a difficult goal, but I did exactly this all through high-
school; and if it requires hard-work, and a change of habits, then that is what I’ll do. This can easily be measured using my grades I’ll receive throughout my classes, and will be accomplished by the end of finals week in December. When it comes to religious goals, I think I have one main goal, which is a coalescing of many small goals. That goal is to grow stronger in my faith. In order to make this measurable, I plan on doing a bible study, working to help with chapel as much as possible, and to hopefully reach a point where I feel at home in a church here in Colorado. When I do, I’m finally going to be baptized. I realize this won’t make me perfect or remove my sinful nature, but it will be an excellent step in growing closer to the Lord, and a goal I will strive to achieve by the end of this school year. One personal goal I have, which is easily measurable, is that I would like to get the same tattoo as my father when I turn eighteen. This will be a tattoo on my inner right ankle of the Trinity symbol. I want this not only because my dad has it, but also because I like the idea of literally displaying my faith on my skin. One social (and also kind of personal) goal that I have is to release music this year. I have been wanting to do this for a long time, and can measure this goal by whether or not I have music released come New Year’s Eve. This goal is flexible, because I don’t care whether this is as a solo artist or with a band that I’m a part of while at CCU. No matter what though, I would love to have music that I can call my own on streaming platforms. Other than these goals and expectations, I cannot think of much else that I would like to accomplish this school year. I hope this is satisfactory.
