Learning environment includes the following areas : blocks, house corner, table toys, art, science, sand and water, library, writing, music and movement, computer, outdoor ( room must be totally set up) 2. Separate noisy areas from quite ones. 3. Clearly define each area using shelves, dividers, carpeting, colorful masking tape. Tables may not be grouped together, but should be assigned to each separate and distinct area. Tables may sit on rugs. 4. Display materials at a height accessible to children so they can see what choice are available. 5. Separate children’s materials from teachers’ supplies. If child is not allowed to use it, it should not be in the classroom, but stored in a closet or cabinet. 6. Logically place interest areas near needed resources (e.g., art area near water, quiet areas away from the door). 7. Ensure that teachers can see all the areas without obstruction. 8. Incorporate a traffic pattern that keeps children from constantly interrupting each other. 9. Children display their artwork at their height, in and around the classroom. 10. Cubbies labeled with the children’s name and a picture or shape that is different from anyone else’s ( must be done using child’s and shape or picture) 11. Room includes item that reflect children’s culture. (all cultures of the center must be represented.) Rev 7/2021

Large poster-size illustrated schedule displayed ( must post first week of school) 13. An alphabet (with related pictures and/or children’s names) is displayed at the children’s eye level 14. There are at least 25 books inclusive of all categories: story, informational, alphabet, predictable , number and counting, and nursery rhymes. Books in children’s home language(s) are included. 15. Materials for writing are included in at least five interest areas. 16. Shelves are labeled in the table toy, writing, and art area with pictures and words. (ongoing throughout the year) 17. Shelves in block and dramatic play area have silhouettes of objects for children to match and put away objects. (silhouettes of all items) 18. Each area has interest areas label in English and Spanish (or language of majority; interest area descriptions also displayed. 19. Classroom is organized and uncluttered. 20. Art materials are accessible. Children can freely use materials. 21. Illustrated charts displayed in the classroom, ex. Job charts, rules charts, sig- in/out chart, planning charts. 22. There is a quiet, comfy corner to be alone. 23. Lesson plans reflect adaptations to the learning environment. Note: Total: Rev 7/2021
