Journal #1: Guest speaker on mental health/poverty/homelessness Use information that was discussed in class today. What are the 5 most interesting points/ideas/facts that Ms. Easton discussed today? Explain why you selected this information or found it impactful. Provide details. 1. The center of the wheel is what society set as the standard; it is impactful since I think that the only way to change power is to eliminate the wheel completely. 2. We have an unconscious way to judge someone based on their appearance, take for example the homeless activity. I chose this point since I did not know I had this judgment. 3. An idea she covered was mental health awareness. By sharing our subjective experiences, we can work to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and other mental health disorders. I found it impactful since some of my friends struggle from mental illnesses. 4. An idea she covered was poverty, and how people must get by on 2 dollars a day. I found this impactful since I realized how privileged we are to have homes and money to keep ourselves well nourished. 5. Taking from the last point, I liked when she covered privilege. She talked about the wheel and asked us what privilege was to us. This was impactful to me since it changed my look on what privilege was to me.
