ARACELLI synopsis Peter, Gabriel, and Roberta have just graduated from a prestigious law school in Los Angeles. The year is 1978. Following the ceremony, they attend a party where Gabriel overhears a private conversation between Peter and Roberta as they profess their love for one another. High on drugs and alcohol, Gabriel plots to eliminate Peter from the equation. His foiled attempt leaves a child fighting for her life, an innocent man being arrested, and Peter holding the guilt for a crime he thinks he committed. The story jumps to twenty years later where Peter, Roberta, and their daughter, Aracelli, are living happily. The shadow of Gabriel’s troubled past is cast on this unsuspecting family. He suffers from the emotional abandonment of his adoptive parents and repeated sexual abuse as a child by his grandfather. Unable to overcome the past, the demons of his childhood permeate his adult life. Losing the woman he loves to his best friend catapults him to commit rape, blackmail, and murder. It is this rejection that is the catalyst for his psychotic break and quest for revenge.
Treatment Usually 7-10 pages, a more detailed summary covering the broad strokes of the entire series, what it’s about, where it’s set, and the main point you’re trying to get across. Think of the treatment as a highlight reel that features the best moments, most moving, most romantic, most tragic, most passionate, and the most horrifying aspects. In a treatment prioritize describing what comes first to your mind as these strong plot points will resonate when you pitch.

Act Outlines for Episodes
BEGINNING Set-up – introduction of main characters, the situation, the problem. The successes and failures of your character have impacts. Inciting incident – spins the story in a new direction, therefore what happens next, what changes? MIDDLE More conflict – leads to choices made by main character with surprises and twists Lowest point, turning point – choices made have repercussions that result in low points for the character or an idea that changes the direction of the story (ex. Your main character is forced to make a critical choice and fails, this is their lowest point. Your character may realize something here that could change the course of the story, this is their turning point). END Climax and resolution – typically the pinnacle of excitement, taking what the character has learned on their journey for an outcome.

How do you know if an idea is well-suited for a TV series? Ask yourself if the idea has an ending? If you can easily picture your story, or your character’s journey, coming to a conclusion, then your idea might be better suited for film. If your idea sparks hundreds more ideas, it could be the basis for a long-lasting TV show. Consider outside forces when assessing your idea. Where does your idea land when you consider it against the current cultural climate? Is it a timely concept (relevant)? How does your idea compare to what’s already on television? Would network executives be looking for a show like this in their development schedules? You don’t necessarily need to change your idea when you consider these factors, but it’s always good to be aware of them.
What current shows are you watching and why? Know your industry. Subscribe to or follow a TV industry trade publication or website to learn what shows are being picked up, who’s behind them, and what trends are happening right now in television production. Become familiar with the major networks, production companies, streaming services, and the players behind them.
Read through the industry trade publications or websites ( Variety, Hollywood Reporter, Deadline Hollywood, IndieWire ) to learn what shows are currently being greenlit. Pick one television show and explain in a short summary: - Who picked up this show? Production Company? Studio? Network? - Describe the premise of the show? - Are there any other shows similar to this one on-air or in the past - What trends are happening right now to make this show desirable?
