Patience (Narrative Essay)
Patience By: Yehia Youssef
Patience is "the bearing of provocation, annoyance, misfortune, or pain, without complaint, loss of
temper or irritation" according to Dictionary.com. There are some who have real experiences with
testing their patience. With life comes experience and with experience comes patience and with
patience comes a type of immortality to hardships. For me, it was a real beating you can say. It was
mid–summer, I laid their stiff, motionless, thinking someone would come and save me, but all I
heard was a zinging noise coming from a bug high in the trees. Going for a bike ride sounded like a
good idea in the middle of the summer, but I thought wrong.
This bright and sunny day seemed to be like any other summer day, until

All of a sudden, I saw my supposed friends run at me. I felt like life slowed down and I was in slow
motion, I saw them running at me but I didn't understand why.
All I remember is that the boys launched at me like I was a threat to them. They threw me to the
ground, started to kick and punch me all over my body. It felt as if I was being shot at by a BB gun
hundreds of times. I looked up and threw my squinted eyes I could see their faces full of rage. I was
shouting and screaming for them to stop. I heard them yelling at me saying "we don't like you! We
were never friends!" these were the last words I heard before I blacked out. When I came back to my
senses, they were gone. It was mid–summer, I laid their stiff, motionless, thinking someone would
come and save me, but all I heard was a zinging noise coming from a bug high in the trees. My taste
buds where tingling, my body felt as if was ran over by a car. I could taste the bitter dirt of the
ground and my bitter–sweet blood. My mind was spinning, when I tried to get up, I stumbled and
couldn't get to my feet. I thought to myself, these guys don't deserve it; they don't deserve me crying
or getting mad at them. They are just a waste of time.
Time, something that others can waste or even take away from an individual. I may never get these
hours of my life back and I had to use all the patience that was in me to endure such a moment in
my life. Life

As human beings we are constantly adjusting to the increasing speed of the 21st century. More times
than we can count we find ourselves losing our minds, and more importantly our patience. We sigh
when forced to wait in line at the post office...well at least I do. We curse our computers for being
too slow and honk our horns at slowpokes in traffic. Time certainly has a rightful place when we
think about it, but it's absolute insanity to think that everyone and everything should move at the
pace we dictate. Most of us, myself included, could learn a thing or two about patience. I am a firm
believer in the phrase "Good things come to those who wait." Even though it is hard to wait for
things, let's face it, when have we ever rushed into

It was hard at first, I would make them a meal they didn't like or enforce rules they did not agree
with and they would get angry, cry, and shout just as any other child would. However, over time we
were able to find some common ground and get along. I was always reminding myself that they
were just kids and they didn't know any better. Eventually we found better ways to communicate
and listen to each other. I didn't really realize it then but those children taught me the beginning of
what patience meant. There was one particular day that really stood out to me. Two of the boys were
doing their math homework. They were struggling and I could see the frustration written all over
their face. So I plopped myself down on a chair and wedged myself between the two of them.
"Maybe I can help?" I offered cautiously. They looked at like I was growing two heads and I could
see the wheels turning in their minds. After a few moments they agreed. We sat for 2 hours as I
explained to them how to multiply and divide fractions. We had become so engrossed in the lesson
that I hadn't realized their mother had returned home. When the homework was finished, the mother
took me aside and she said to me in awe, "You have the patience of a saint". Nobody had ever told
me that before. I always thought myself to be an impatient person considering the fact that I could
never wait for anything. That was the moment it truly hit me though. It took patience, a lot of

"The two most powerful warriors are patience and time." By Leo Tolstoy. Hitherto the American
Revolutionary War, the colonists were the underdog as Great Britain was much more superior and
successful in navy and army. It was a 7 year war which gave the colonists some time to think to plan
out their battles as the war was going on. As stated before the most powerful warriors are patience
and time as though, the colonists were defeated in the very first battle which gave no self–esteem.
As the the battles went on much were defeated, until the Siege of Yorktown, which there was one
man who led to victory with the side of French as an ally. This led to the official ending of the 7–
year bloody war, and the Declaration of Independence being signed and sent to the Parliament
which gave the freedom to "Americans" or as in this case the Patriots of the war.

Similarly, George Washington had one big threat to ending the war at this moment, such as so it was
mainly Cornwallis and his troops because as they tried many times to officially end the war, he had
to plan this out correctly. So without the help of France it was pretty hard for them to succeed before
but as soon as they came through the ocean, they had defeated them. As they were hard to defeat
during the battles as George Washington lost more than he won he had actually done it against the
"villain" which was the general of the Loyalists. As this is true, Cornwallis was hard to defeat as
shown in some battles against the colonists which most villains are gruesome and want terror

Patience, Creativity, And Working With Children
Being a teacher requires patience, kindness, communication, creativity, and working well with
others. You have to have patience when working with children; working with Faith has taught me
how to be patience when trying to teach her new things. She requires a little extra work because she
is younger than the other children. Working on the letters in her name has taken time but after
working with her one–on–one and in the center. when she is trying to find her name tag I point to
the letters and have her read me the name. She has started to recognize her name and her sisters
name. I had to have patience when getting her to name and recognizing the letters in her name.
When working in a center you have to be understanding and kind. Children can be sensitive to
anything you say; teachers need to watch their tone of voice when working with children. When a

taught me how to talk to them when they are crying and what makes them feel better. Also when
they are playing they do not like to do art or easel and I have learned over the past two years how to
get them to participate without crying. Sometimes they just want their parents or maybe they just
need a hug from their stuffed animal while they sit on your lap. You have to teach other children
how to be kind to each other by demonstrating kindness to the children and the other aids in the
center. When paired up with a student that may get on my nerves I have to calm my nerves and
watch my tone because if children see you talk rudely they will think it is acceptable to talk that way
to people. When something happends or is said in the center that should not be I wait until we are
out of the center and address it so there is not arguing

Ethics
Virtue and Patience
In order to survive these days, there need to be at least some standards and goals of morality in a
person's life. Moral excellence is definitely hard to achieve, but is something worth while to attempt.
Personally, there are many distractions and obstructions the present day provides, creating a
difficulty of direction in my own life. I need to overcome obstacles such as peer pressure in order to
become a confident, successful person. The present day provides impediments which I believe I can
overcome by way of morality and virtue
. I have chosen to work on more patience in my life.
According to Aristotle, for every virtue there are two vices. One is in excess and the other being
deficit. Patience is a

Never noticing it, I never tried to correct it. Now in the morning I have her to calm me down. We are
working on it together. And I am most definitely improving. I recall writing in my journal about how
I feel anger and frustration when I am waiting around. This coincides with the part of the definition
about delay. Through my journaling process I realized that I get most frustrated when I have a time
to be somewhere and I know I am going to be late. I am also frustrated in anything and everything
that hinders my path. On the other hand, if I have not specific time to be somewhere, then I don't
feel any part of being impatient. For example, when I was coming back to the dorm from my home
town, I was in traffic for and hour. Ordinarily, if I had to be back at a specific time, I would have
been antsy and swearing at the traffic when it is out of my control. Plato had a theory of the
charioteer. In this theory, there is a person who represents reason, and two horses. One represents
will power and spirit and the other the persons appetites and desires. I believe that all three are
involved in be becoming more patient. I have to be able to come up with reasons why I am impatient
and reason out the pros and cons of my decisions. The will power is enormous because if it wasn't
for the will power I would have just quit after failing to have more patience. Finally, I desire to
become more patient so that also boosts my will power up.

Patience Kershaw Analysis
1. How did Payne's testimony compare with that of Ann Eggley and Patience Kershaw? Mr. Payne's
testimony contrasted all the points that Ann Eggley and Patience Kershaw made in their testimonies.
Payne first said that children started work at age 8, yet Eggley began work at age 7. Payne said that
the children worked for 6–7 hours per day, yet Eggley worked 12 hours constantly, starting at 4am;
except on Saturdays. Kershaw worked 12 hours also, starting at 5am. Payne believed that "'[the
children were] not ill–used or worked beyond their strength'", yet Eggley said "'the work is far too
hard for me; the sweat runs off me all over sometimes'". Patience "'[hurried 11] corves a mile and
more under ground and back; they weigh 300 cwt,'" which is

Maya Angelou Patience
Often when you hear a story that makes you interested, you learn something new from it. Then
throughout your life, you gain more knowledge. One generation can teach the other from avoiding
past mistakes, knowing life isn't always easy and having patience. In addition to having patience, in
"Mom & Me & Mom" Maya Angelou slowly started to appreciate her new life and changes.
Therefore, it was the changes in her attitude that made a difference to her life. She gave her life a
chance, and she didn't have a fixed mindset. Moreover, Maya Angelou learned was to have patience
before she started to criticize. Another reason, why one generation can learn from another is because
they both benefit each other in different ways. In "Tutors Teach Seniors"

Being Patient
The Importance of Being Patient and Positive Patience is a key element of success in the workplace.
I work at Burger King. Sometimes you might deal with a angry customers. They Might say some
things that you don't like but you have to deal with it, that is a situation that require patience. Or
maybe sometimes you need to work some extra hours due to urgency of some matters. You may get
stuck in an instance which causes your impulse to react quickly. Whenever someone is being rude to
you, you could just kill them with kindness. A bad attitude can get you fired, so take it down a notch,
take a deep breath, and take a break before you go off the deep end. An employee who gets the ball

Mastering a Skill (Patience)
I believe that in life there are many skills a person needs to master in order to benefit them and their
family. Those skills allow them to succeed in life, and become a better person. Look at it this way, if
a person were to learn only one skill, their day to day life would not change, but their business world
would. That one skill supplies them with the basic knowledge in order to work for their company.
Mastering one skill is useful if that is all you need, a doctor may need three, four or even more skills
in order for him to succeed. Where as someone in waste disposal may only need one or two, if that's
all they require. There can be many reasons as to why, we as humans strive to learn more and more,

they only shape who you are. I have found that being positive in life you seem to take on a much
more, "I can do this." tone and attitude, rather than, "I can't do this." tone and attitude. If you're
going succeed in life you most defiantly have to master one skill. This one skill will allow you to
deal with even the most vial and annoying people on this earth. It will allow you to talk to your boss,
even though they have this extremely disgusting habit of spitting when they talk. Let's look at
another example, shall we? When you were born your mother and father held you, feed you, bathed
you, and cared for you. Although you may not know this but they also had their moments, moments
like "Why won't they just be quiet? I am trying to take a nap, you should do the same." They were
talking about you. Not that they were unhappy with your presence but they were annoyed at your
constant, help me cries. Parents instinctively have this skill mastered once their children have grown
up and stop needing to be cared for. This skill is positively the most important skill on today's earth,
it shapes how people react to any situation, and it allows you to read this essay. It allows everyone
on earth to deal with irritating situations. This skill that you must master is called, Patience. Patience
is the root of all your problems, it

Instant Gratification And Its Effect On Society
Instant gratification is something that everybody is used to nowadays. Whether wanting to find an
answer to a question, needing to add numbers together or finding out if a pregnancy test is positive,
answers come instantly. Most people do not realize that earlier generations did not have those
answers available in the blink of an eye. People had to wait for things. They had patience and
realized that not everything in the world is instant. Society now demands that everything should
happen right away and we should not have to wait for anything, but that is making the world full of
impatient, entitled people. Since most people do not know what it's like to not have instant
gratification most individuals take that for granted. Instant gratification has caused a lot of problems
in society, including taking away face–to–face communication
, patience, and certainty.
Problems With Living in a Society With Instant Gratification Instant gratification has become the
social norm in this generation but is diminishing the quality of communication. Cell phones have
changed massively in the past few years, making communication weaken each time cell phones are
updated. At first, cell phones were just used for calling. Calling was the only operation that they
were capable of and most of the time calling was not even convenient on a cell phone. Although the
concept of texting has been out for decades, actual texting became available to all society in 1994
(Turrettini). Texting instantly

Perseverance Essay
What is perseverance? Perseverance is the ability to go on when things seem hopeless. It is also a
measure of success, or at least how much sacrifice one is willing to make in the name of success. As
students, it is impossible to achieve personal success without having a goal, or direction. The goal
and direction that often propels us to achieve is perseverance. Perseverance is the ability to forge
ahead despite setbacks that threaten to undermine all efforts to succeed.
We are high school students and that means that the sense of urgency to strive for and to achieve
personal success is now. With this urgency comes the expectation of having to persevere. This year
has not been as easy one for us as a school body. We have been

There is no shame in falling; the shame is in accepting the the fall as defeat. Nelson Mandella once
said, "The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time you fall." That is
the essence of persevering––finding the will to get up even though you know you are being counted
out.
Each day is a challenge for some of us. Some of you struggle to get up each morning and make it to
school. But you find it within yourself to do because the hope of a better tomorrow compels you to
do so. It is not easy to explain to teachers or other students that there was no one to wake you up and
see that you were ready for school. The moment you leave your house and step on the bus, you are
one step closer to realizing your dream, to fulfilling your purpose. That is what perseverance is. It is
the finding the strength to do the impossible because you know that all things are possible. It is
understanding that your tomorrow has great possibilities because of the steps you take today. I had a
neighbor whose parents were divorced, but it seems like both parents divorced her. Her mother had
custody, but she was seldom around. My friend raised herself. She gave a whole new meaning to the
phrase "putting yourself through school", but she was in middle school. However, she had a dream
of something better and it was evident that it required self–motivation and determination.

What Is The Importance Of Patience In Life
"Patience is the key which solves all problems" A quote said by Sudanese proverb. This quote shows
the importance of patience and its role in solving our daily life obstacles. Individual personalities
differ according to the traits they have. But one trait that we should all acquire is patience. Actually,
Patience is a blessing that every individual should be attentive to its benefits. When you are patient
you'll not go crazy when you are waiting in a traffic jam or when you're waiting the traffic lights to
turn into green, or lose your mind when you hear the screaming of a baby, it is not being hastily
peeved because of tinny beers. (Lines 6, 7, 8) Therefore, patience is to accept interruptions and
obstacles or either pain without getting irritated or mad. Patience is a pacific weapon that you can
save yourself with, without causing destructions. I perfectly agree with Alok Kumar Chaubey

Alok Kumar Chaubey in his article "Importance of patience in life" proposes that patience has a
significant role in shaping a talent into achievement, helping individuals acquire a positive attitude,
and making individuals healthier and I strongly agree with what he possesses. Human beings differ
in their qualities and personalities; but still patience is a special quality and a treasured characteristic
that every individual have to gain. Patience is a virtue; it is a point of strength that richens the person
who owns it .A person who owns this skill can reach many of what he wish to have, by means of
waiting with a good attitude away from anger and frustration. Therefore, by having patience, you'll
be able to let bad situations go away, and live with smaller amount of stress, nervousness, and
frustration. So be patient to reach your goals

Definition Essay: What Is Patience?
In this essay, I will argue against the common definition of patience. We can peek in various
dictionaries, and find the word patience defined as being able to accept or tolerate waiting, delay, or
suffering without becoming annoyed or upset. One might oppose patience by getting irritated, upset,
emotional or anxious in the face of suffering. Dictionaries may alter this definition from one edition
to the next, however, it all draws upon the idea that there's something we're waiting for. This results
in the word patience relying on the future. The Buddha had the patience to sit in the face of suffering
for 6 years before becoming a Bodhisattva. However, did he wait? "Do not dwell in the past, do not
dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment" (Buddha). The French sculptor
Auguste Rodin claimed, "Patience is also a form of action". While enlightened thinkers realized the
virtuous depth of patience, numerous people don't. I inquire its time to study the virtue of patience in
a different way and redefine what it means to be patient. Understanding the reality of what patience
truly means, can remind us how significant being patient can be. Especially in the time period we
live in. There are a growing number of distractions that can inhibit our patience. Today, it seems that
people inherently become restless or upset when a web browser takes an extra 5 seconds to load.
People often become angry over a text message taking too long to send. Everywhere we turn,

God and Patience
Patience Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet. But what does patience mean actually? According to
"Free–Dictionary.com", the definition of patience is the capacity to endure hardship, difficulty, or
inconvenience without complaint. Patience emphasizes calmness, self–control, and the willingness
or ability to tolerate delay. As we all know, patience is one of the main virtues and is hard work, and
costs one. However its fruits, the results and rewards surprises one pleasantly. For me, I believe
patience is God's test for us. For instance, when we are being concerned about our Heavenly Father
again and again, we might grow tired of waiting. It might begins to feel like our prayers are falling

As said in Proverbs 25:15, "with patience a ruler may be persuaded, and a soft tongue will break a
bone," and Colossians 3:13, "Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another,
forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive," talking patiently may
eschew quarrel with ease and my parents forgive my mistakes just like God forgives our sins. By
patiently persevering through difficulties, our patience will be rewarded in the end, "the Lord is
good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him." (Lamentations 3:25) Patience has
been practiced throughout my whole life. As a Christian, I don't declare myself as a truly devoted
one, but I worship God faithfully with my heart. I believe God has made plans for me to make my
life better. Therefore, I never complained about my dating experience such as never been on a date
in my life while my peers around me are dating or probably have dated more than once. Sometimes
I would have doubts in God, I would feel He has treated me unfairly or my prayers have not been

for me. I believe God has His reasons for having me waited so long till the right person to come. I
have been patiently waiting for God's plan. I have learned the experience of waiting on God reminds

Personal Essay : My Personal Qualities
My Personal Qualities
Over the course, I have learned that all people are unique and have their own personal traits and
qualities. One person does not just simply fall into one category, but various categories. What is
beautiful about all of us is that we all have diverse personalities, traits and qualities. I have learned
that we should be proud of and embrace these unique qualities of ours.
As a perfectionist, I like to present my things beautifully and creatively, and it is clearly seen on my
collage. I appreciate beautiful things and this is why I got beauty/aesthetics as one of my highest
totals on the values survey. On my collage, I put a picture of a microscope, with the circular flask

in return. I used the quote: "Beauty isn't about having a pretty face. It is about having a pretty mind,
a pretty heart, and most importantly, a beautiful soul". I chose to use this quote because I adore it
and I go by it. What matters most is in the inside, not on the outside. I think people sometimes, even
me, get too caught up and try too hard to look beautiful, but they don't focus on personality.
A) I expected to get artistic, creative and investigative as my results on surveys that I took, because I
already knew I had these traits as a part of my personality. However, the results from my learning

and auditory were almost balanced out scores. The reason why I was a little surprised was that last
year, I took a survey to figure out my learning style, and I got both auditory and visual learner. The
results have their little differences, but that shows people do change over time. Learning styles can
be learned and strengthened.
I learned plenty of things from my results. My values–which I didn't see clearly–are now clear, and I
found out the little unique things that make up my personality. From my personality survey, I am
mostly artistic,

My Experience At The Homeless Shelter
My experience tells me that I am suitable for the work in my applied experience. I have acquired
skills, such as critical thinking, group communication, understanding of personal behavior,
organization skills, and accepting criticism. Moreover, I take orders well and can work in a stressful
environment. I was efficient in what I put in at the homeless shelter and left with an experience of

such as compassion, patience, and interpersonal skills to work around others. I was confident
enough to approach the families at the shelter and made friends. I was there to listen without
judgment, and they appreciated that I took the time to hear what they had to say. For example, I
heard the different reasons why these individuals ended up at the homeless shelter and how they feel
stuck in their situation. I heard testimonies from families who have undergone many tragedies and
were fortunate to have the support that the BHC provides. Lastly, the area that I could improve on is
conflict prevention among adults. I experienced watching some fights at the shelter, and I do not
have the skills to stop it without getting physically involved. Furthermore, my site supervisor
believed that I showed exemplary abilities with the families. I would have to say that the five main
role of ethics that were involved at the center included fidelity and responsibility, integrity, respect

"A person can learn a lot from a dog, even a loopy one like ours...he taught me about friendship and
selflessness and, above all else, unwavering loyalty," says John Grogan, author of Marley & Me.
Although dogs are just animals, they can bring out the best characteristics in people. Recently, an
exploration of one of the most well–known pieces of canine non–fiction and an exploration of my
own life has taught me just how true this is. In John Grogan
's Marley & Me and in my life, patience,
flexibility, and love are frequently illustrated. Facing challenges with patience is a trait that

Janet Echelman Her Secret Is Patience Analysis
Janet Echelman is an artist who considers the cutting edge of sculptures, public art, and urban
transformation in her art works. Her art work in question "Her Secret Is Patience" uses a cactus
flower shape as a symbol for the Arizona desert city of Phoenix. Her art work is held by three
leaning poles that are forty to hundred feet high. According to Janet her act work was inspired by the
patience of the saguaro cactus, she say, "It's a spiny cactus putting down roots in search of water in
the desert, saving up every ounce of energy until, one night, in the middle of the cool darkness, it
unfurls one succulent bloom" (Artforms, p. 6) The center of her art work is the colors of the net
