Admission Essay
Have you ever been in a position where you feel like you are not making enough effort to make yourself better and achieve more? Most of my peers do not seem to find themselves in such situations, but this is my current situation. For some time now, people have criticized me for not enjoying myself, which in most cases is described by endless partying and spending time with friends. However, many do not understand why I keep striving to challenge myself with new community-based projects, mentorships, my program for girl empowerment, and my college
studies. From my family background, I am part of the first set of women faced with the challenge
of changing the attitude that had been set against women from previous generations.
During my final year in high school, I decided to go against the odds and break the monotony in the student leadership system. At this time, I was obliged to challenge the inherited belief that women could not lead or join politics. I managed to clinch the position of the school events coordinator. While serving in this position, I encountered one of my most thankful moments. The
school principal took up my idea of Girls with Big Dreams, pitched it to the school management board, and I was given a grant to hold an awareness event across the school, targeting the junior classes. This was a defining moment; I have since been motivated to cruise against every challenge to see the dreams of other young girls come true.
Several moments have so far defined my growth. However, an outstanding encounter that fully triggered my desire to take on a Biological career was the time I got diagnosed with a skin disorder that was categorized to have no cure. The life changing aspect of this was not the scare that I might live with the disorder the rest of my life but the endless efforts that my doctor put in to ensure that the insurance company clears me for drug prescription. The desire by my doctor to

see my agony come to an end pushed me to the extreme desires of wanting to change other people’s live through biological studies, solutions and inventions.
Even though much of my projects align with social work and civic interaction, I also hold a special career desire for Biology; genetics. The world faces many threats from the changing course of nature, technology, and biological trends. Having a solid zeal to change the world, I find Biology insightful and broad in the opportunities it offers to secure a better future for the human race. I admire the opportunity of genetic scientists to explore and be part of medical inventions that solve some of the world's greatest medical mysteries.
For my career as well as social interests, Georgetown University stands out to be a unique institution where I will be able to achieve my dreams. Testimonials from alumni, and students in the university, Georgetown is outstanding given its facilities and professionals in the field of Biology. I am confident that the university will offer a conducive environment for my studies and support my research projects as I explore the field of genetics to help the world. The university co-curriculum activity program will also benefit my non-profit program on Girls with Big Dreams, attracting more attention from the university students and the community within. I will develop a quality schedule that will help me balance my engagements and ensure that I attend assignments, exams, and laboratory sessions and achieve the best.
