The Soft-Hearted Sioux" and "Speech to the Osages Zitkala-Sa's short story "The Soft-Hearted Sioux" addresses tenacity through the main character's experiences. Soft-Hearted Sioux struggles with cultural assimilation and identity throughout the story. Born within a Sioux tribe, he faces constant pressure to adhere to European values. Soft-Hearted Sioux fights to preserve his culture despite many obstacles ( Hafen, 2002) . Despite widespread pressure to integrate, the person maintains their original language and culture. Soft-Hearted Sioux's journey is marked by his determination to reconcile his traditional heritage with Western influences. The person seeks a balance that lets them wander between two realities while maintaining individuality. This dispute illustrates the persistence needed to maintain one's cultural heritage in an assimilationist society. However, Chief Tecumseh's poem "Speech to the Osages" stresses perseverance in diplomatic endeavors and the fight against oncoming troops. Chief Tecumseh believes Native American tribes must unite to oppose US expansionism. Tecumseh's tireless efforts to unite tribes to fight a familiar foe show his tenacity. Despite internal divisions and external pressures, the individual emphasizes unity. The individual's ardent call for endurance against external forces seeking to remove and persecute Indigenous communities shows his dedication to the goal ( Keyser, 2022) . Chief Tecumseh and Soft-Hearted Sioux are unshakable in the face of cultural, social, and political challenges. These people's stories emphasize the need to retain individuality and resist extraneous pressures threatening individual and community existence. These characters in "The Soft-Hearted Sioux" and "Speech to the Osages" display perseverance in various ways. Defying cultural assimilation, the Soft- Hearted Sioux illustrate the persistence needed to preserve culture. Chief Tecumseh's diplomatic efforts underscore the need to resist foreign attempts to destroy indigenous civilizations.
