DQ 2: How would research on sexuality benefit various groups, religions, and cultures? How could research on sexuality benefit society? How has completing this assignment contributed to your growth and development as a counselor in training? Explain your response. Research on human sexuality is just that - research. Research isn’t used to prove people right or wrong on how others should behave. Research is used to gain data and insight regarding a specific topic. This research would benefit various groups, religions, and culture by allowing them to get insight on how individuals view themselves and make decisions (Rathus, et. al., 2017). There is a stigma that is tied with a person's sexuality that others forget to look within an individual and they jump to conclusions and judge them off their bias towards a larger collective group. Research on sexuality benefits society because it shows us how we all share similarities, as well what makes us unique. This assignment has contributed to my growth and development as a counselor because it allows me to come into every therapeutic relationship with an open heart. My goal as a counselor is not to push my views and values onto my client. My goal as a counselor is to help my clients set goals and problem solve based off their own personal beliefs. Rathus, S.
