Artifacts and the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice
Q1. How does your overall learning and the Artifacts selected demonstrate a connection to
the Code of Ethics, Standards of Practice? (In each of the areas- Relationship with
Children, Health Wellness and Safety)
Artifacts are our own ideas demonstrated by an item that represents those ideals. Our
daily encounters and experiences inspire these artifacts by undertaking different activities.
Consequently, regardless of the role and setting in which they can be practiced, the code of ethics
and standards of practice showcases the skills, professional knowledge, expectations, and values
applicable in childhood education.
There are four ethical codes, and six standards of practice are employed in the college to
ensure sensitivity to the multicultural character of the province and promote diversity in the
school. These ethical codes and standards of practice operate closely to nurture professionalism
by setting values of ethics. The expectations concerning knowledge, actions, and skills are
demonstrated in six key areas. The college is held liable for its practice and to the public through
the basis set by the code of ethics and standards of practice together with professional
misconduct regulation.
Upholding the code of ethics is a mandatory exercise for registered early childhood
educators. The codes aim at maintaining integrity, respect, values of care, and trust, which are
important for professional progress. These codes of ethics include a responsibility to children,
responsibilities to colleagues and to the profession, responsibilities to the families, and
responsibilities to the public and the community.

On the other hand, standards of practice involve the measures that the educators should
follow to be professional in their line of duty. These practices include caring and responsive
relationships, curriculum and pedagogy, safety, health and well-being in the learning
environment, professionalism and leadership, professional boundaries, conflict of interest, dual
relationships, confidentiality, duty report, and release of information. Incorporating these
practices and the code of ethics ensures healthy child development and is crucial for the children
learning and their well-being.
The following artifacts can be used with this code of ethics and standard practice
to promote professionalism among childhood learners. These artifacts include newsletters,
assessments, and field trips.
Newsletters can promote professionalism among early childhood educators by
encouraging the students to formulate their newsletters to relay messages to their parents or vice
versa. This information may entail schedule changes, policies, school activities, news, students
awards, events, performances, updates, and community happenings. The parents are able to stay
on top of the school news provided that these newsletters are issued on a weekly or monthly
basis or when the school may deem necessary. They help the parents in planning their activities
in order to create time for their children's school events because they notify them in advance,
giving them time to prepare themselves. However, nowadays, the process of relaying messages
to parents has become easier through mobile phones. Social media has advanced the traditional
method of newsletters because now the children don’t have to carry them home, but the teacher
can inform the parent directly through messages.

Secondly, assessments are crucial artifacts. However, one must have a purpose
for conducting such assessments, or else they will be of dismal benefits. These assessments allow
the teachers to identify the areas they need to put more work into, and those students
comprehend. Decisions relating to instructional needs, grades, advancement, placement, funding,
and curriculum are all determined through assessment. Since the world is constantly changing, it
is important for students to learn skills that would help them survive in this era instead of
learning basic reading and arithmetic only. These skills mostly advocate for critical thinking in
every challenging situation and making an impeccable conclusion.

Thirdly, field trips are important because they provide an avenue for a new experience for
both students and teachers. They demonstrate a code of ethics because they allow teachers and
students to gather new ideas and skills for new areas. These trips expose students to the new
advances of the world that improves their understanding of the real world instead of relying on
the theory they learn in school. Therefore, it is easy to apply their classroom knowledge if they
experience the practical part of it.

Q2.
How will your learning experiences, knowledge and skills assist you in making a
future positive impact on the children and families that you will be working with?
As an early childhood educator I know that a healthy child development is important for
the children wellbeing and learning therefore, professionalism is a crucial component to achieve
healthy learning for the children. An important practice for early childhood educators to master is
maintaining responsive and caring relationship with children, colleagues and families. In order
for children to engage and feel comfortable when learning, it is crucial to create a good
relationship with children. Thus, integrating the code of ethics and standard practices, I can
create an environment full of interaction which can make children feel safe and understood.
This learning experience will also help me in creating a trusting relationship with the
families of my students. This is through constant interactions with the parents concerning the
progress of the children because as a professional educator, the best of the children is paramount.

Further I will be able to adhere to all safety and wellness regulations provided by the childcare to
ensure my students are learning in a safe environment free from any threats. Further, children
safety can be improved by contacting the parents to know whether a child has any underlying
condition that requires them from participating in some activities.
