TITLE OF YOUR PAPER 2 Abstract For the first essay of the year, I read the study “Stone Agers in the Fast Lane: Chronic Degenerative Diseases in Evolutionary Perspective.” This particular article stood out to me because I’m interested in health and fitness and want to be in the health field. I wanted to learn how people used to survive before Western civilization, Things such as what the diet of these people looked like, what kind of diseases these people had to face, and what was the average life expectancy before modern medicine. One of the significant points that the article talks about is life expectancy. How we've increased life expectancy: The report says, “ In today’s Western nations, life expectancy is over 70 years,” which is double what it used to be in pre-industrial times. With the advances in modern medicine, infant death rates have been lower than ever before, and it is even reported that over 80% of the infants born will live past the age of 65. The article also talks about how human health has been negatively impacted as well; we have opened ourselves up to harmful things such as alcohol and tobacco, and this, in return, has made disorders such as obesity, diabetes, and certain cancers more common in today's civilization. Another significant point in the article is Nutrition and Physical. The article talks about the different kinds of diets that many people used in pre-industrialization. One of the diets in the article was the Paleolithic diet, which mainly consisted of fruits, vegetables, seeds, and nuts. In the hunter-gatherer, 34% of their diet consisted of protein or even more than the 12% of protein Americans consume. Another topic that this article also talks about is the high amount of physical exercise that hunter-gathers got from their lifestyles compared to the people of modern times, and this honestly makes sense if you think about hunter gathers spent most of their days hunting and looking for food and also doing more manual labor, things such as building shelter and other things to survive in their environment. Compared to today, where we have machines to create tops and stores to get food, we do not need to be as physically active post-industrialization.
TITLE OF YOUR PAPER 3 If I had conducted this study, I would have included more studies from around the world instead of just one region. If I had conducted this study, I would have focused explicitly on ethnicity, age, gender, and maybe even height to compare the differences in bone structure and build to see why a particular group might be more muscular and physically more significant. While I would include this, I would also have the geography surrounding a particular group of people, such as lots of trees or a body of water near civilization. Finally, compare the skeletal structures of humans worldwide today and see how different we are. In conclusion, this article was fascinating, and I found it very interesting to learn about the different cultures that existed before us. It was interesting to learn about the other diets, how different they are, and how similar they are to what we eat today. I also found it interesting to know how many new diseases we have brought upon ourselves due to the changes in our culture, and I also found the article very interesting when it talked about the life spans of humans today vs. in the past and how we have almost doubled the life expectancy compared to pre-industrialization. It was also intriguing to learn about how our bodies changed based on bioenvironmental circumstances and the needs to survive in an environment.
