Experiment 8 Magnetic Force between Currents Danielle Panambo and Aissa Ouldbrahim May 2, 2019 0301 Purpose The purpose of this experiment is to examine the magnetic field produced by a current through wires as well as the magnetic forces it produces. Data and Analysis
intercept int. uncertainty slope slope uncertainty sum c 2 s δμ -0.00096 0.001017 5.66E-05 2.55E-05 0.077379 5.664E-07 Table 1. Calculated Values Fg (N) δFg (N) I 2 (A) δI 2 (A) .00049 0.00049 25.5025 .0505 .00098 0.00049 35.8801 .0599 .00147 0.00049 41.2164 .0642
.00196 0.00049 52.1284 .00196 The force of gravity for each mass was calculated by multiplying each mass value with the acceleration of gravity, 9.8 m/s 2 . These values were listed in the independent variable column. The corresponding currents for each weight were also squared and listed in the dependent variable column. Sources of Uncertainty One of the possible sources of uncertainty for the lab experiment is the true length of the wire. The measured length could affect the calculation of the slope with equation 5. The multimeter could also be 0.01 ampere off when measuring the current. The platform may have also not been in complete equilibrium and would have skewed the displacement of the laser point. Conclusion The slope of our graph is 5.66E-05 . The y-intercept is -0.00096 N. Our calculated μ 0 is 1.257 * 10 -6 N/A 2 . The δμ 0 is 5.664E-07 N/A 2 . These values are not close to the actual μ 0 value of * 10 4? -7 N/A 2 . Our origin value does lie within the uncertainty. The calculated value for µ0 is not statistically consistent with the actual value. Additionally, the y-intercept from our fit is in fact statistically consistent with zero .
