To review:

The role of NAD⁺ (oxidized form of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) and oxygen (O₂) in the redox reaction with respect to electrons.

Introduction:

Energy is generated through three processes in nature, which are glycolysis, cellular respiration, and fermentation. These processes involve redox reactions in which oxidation and reduction go hand-in-hand. In reduction, an electron is accepted or acquired by an atom, which acts as an oxidant. On the other hand, in oxidation, electrons are given up by an atom, which acts a reducing agent.
