Chapter 9, Problem 9.73P
Interpretation Introduction

(a)

Interpretation:

Calculate the Percentage of excess air feed to reactor?

Concept introduction:

CO is burned with excess air at 1 atm.

Reactant enters at 25°C and leaves at 1500 °C.

One carbon oxide molecule plus half oxygen molecule will give one carbon dioxide molecule.

Using this concept, we will find out excess air feed to reactor.

Interpretation Introduction

(b)

Interpretation:

Change in adiabatic flame temperature if % of excess air increased.

Concept introduction:

Adiabatic flame temperature is inversely proportional to air flow rate, that is,if the percentage excess were increased, the adiabatic flame temperature would decrease.

#1 A irreversible isothermal gas-phase isomerization reaction is given as: AB. This reaction is conducted in a 400L batch reactor and 100 mol of A (NAD = 100 mol) is charged into this reactor. The rate of reaction is determined as a function of the conversion of reactant A and the results are given below. The temperature was constant at 500K and the total pressure was constant at 830 kPa.
