To determine: Whether the phosphatidylglycerol “head group” of cardiolipin (Table 9-2) in the textbook projects out of a lipid bilayer like other glycerophospholipid head groups.
Concept introduction: Glycerophospholipid also known as phosphoglyceride is glycerol based on phospholipid. It is the main component of the biological membranes. It has an amphipathic nature. This property helps them to form the lipid bilayer structure of membranes. Cardiolipin is also an important component in the inner mitochondrial membrane. It constitutes about 20% of total lipid composition.
