Chapter 9, Problem 5SQ
Summary Introduction

Introduction:

An experiment was conducted which included the cross between the fruit flies leading to the formation of progeny with 77-red eyed males, 71-ruby eyed males and 152 red-eyed females. The gene for the red eye color in drosophila is dominant over the ruby recessive eye color. It is an example of sex linked inheritance in which the alleles of the genes are located at a close distance on the chromosomes. These genes are present on the X-chromosomes and the same traits are passed on to the next generation or the offspring. The Y-chromosome does not exhibit the genes for eye color.

Two affected individuals have affected male offspring but no affected female children. C. If a child has the disease, one of his or her grandparents will have had it. D. If a genetic disease is inherited on the basis of an autosomal dominant gene, one would expect to find which of the following? A. Affected fathers have only affected children. B. Affected mothers never have affected sons. C. If both parents are affected, all of their offspring have the disease. D. If a child has the disease, one of his or her grandparents also had the disease.
Sickle cell anemia is an inherited red blood cell disorder in which there are not enough healthy red blood cells to carry oxygen throughout the body. The allele that causes sickle-cell anemia is autosomal recessive (s), and the dominant allele can be represented by S. How many offspring will be affected by the disorder if the mother is a carrier, and the father appears to be normal? (Include the gender) a. b. How many will become carriers? (include the gender) A- 三三三 四 四 II !!
