To analyze:
In the given case, a football player was injured during a match. His leg was twisted and his knee joint swelled up. The injury was accompanied by a sharp pain and he was unable to walk during the latter half of the day. He was advised by his coach to visit a doctor who would drain the water from his knees. Determine the meaning of sentence “water in the knee” and reason for the condition of Jeremiah's knee after an injury.
Introduction:
The knee joint is more damage prone because of its mobility and complexity. An injury may cause swelling in the knee. This can occur either due to damaged blood vessels, synovial membrane, a fracture, or rupture of ligaments. Sometimes, an injury may cause an increase in the synovial fluid of the knee joint and this condition is known as “water in the knee” or knee effusion.

- Which of the following evidence seems to confirm that the skeleton alleged to be General Pulaski is being correctly identified? A)although female in shape, the pelvis and hip bones showed evidence of their owner spending a lot of time on horseback, which would make sense for someone who served in a calvary regiment B)DNA taken from the skeleton was matched with DNA from a known relative of Pulaski C)the bones showed signs of injuries that Pulaski had sustained during his life including a bullet wound in the right hand of the skeleton D)the size and age of the skeleton match historical accouts of the Generalarrow_forwardMatch the term in column A with the correct description in column B. Column A Column B 1. Articular cartilage a.) C- shaped plate of fibrocartilage that provides shock absorption at the knee joint 2. Interosseous membrane b.) Synchondrosis where bone growth occurs 3. Synovial membrane c.) Layer of hyaline cartilage that covers articulating bony surfaces at synovial joints 4. Bursa d.) Fluid-filled sac that provides cushioning and reduces friction at a synovial joint 5. Fontanelle e.) Structure that anchors a tooth to its bony socket 6. Meniscus f.) Sheet of fibrous connective tissue that connects the long bones in the forearm or leg 7. Intervertebral disc g.) Region of connective tissue between cranial bones in the fetal skull, where ossification is not complete 8. Epiphyseal plate h.) Shock absorbing fibrocartilage located between the bodies of adjacent vertebrae 9. Periodontal…arrow_forwardThe menisci in the knee joint can be torn for a variety of reasons. Considering the structure of the menisci, would you expect these tears to heal on their own? Why or why not? a.The medial meniscus is attached to the tibial collateral ligament, so fibroblasts in the ligament can divide and differentiate into chondrocytes to repair the meniscus. b.Menisci tears do not heal on their own because the menisci are composed of hyaline cartilage and do not have an extensive blood supply. c.Menisci tears do not heal on their own because the menisci are composed of fibrocartilage and do not have an extensive blood supply. d.Menisci tears can heal quickly because of the nutrients surrounding them in the synovial fluid.arrow_forward
