Explanation of Solution

A bad news is still news, how sensitive or uncomfortable it may sound or look, the point has to be delivered to the relevant recipient. This can be done in two effective methods:

  • Direct approach
  • Indirect approach

The blog posting could have been written in a direct method. In a direct method of writing, the bad news is stated as obvious right at the beginning of the letter, in this case, the blog writing could have carried the direct format. If you are unaware of the sensitivity status of the recipient it is not advisable to carry out this form of an approach.

The CEO’s message and newsletter would have carried out information written in an indirect style, making the reader understand the situation at present, mellowing the negative news to suit its receiver.

In a case of not knowing your targeted audience of the message, it is always good to adapt a writing style which is sensitive and indirect so that it can show consideration and understanding from the writer’s point of view.

The federal minimum wage was last updated to $7.25 in 2009. Is this enough money to live on? According to a study from the University of California Berkeley Labor Center, federal and state taxes are currently subsidizing the wages of low-wage employees to the tune of 153 billion a year. Is this fair?  Should the law be changed? Or is it true that the minimum wage should be abolished/lowered for infringing on individuals' right to contract and for causing higher unemployment?
