Introduction:
The twelve pairs of ribs are part of the axial skeleton and articulate with all of the thoracic vertebrae. The ribs form part of the thoracic cage along with the thoracic vertebrae and sternum. Typical features of most of the ribs are seen in ribs 2–7, and the other ribs are more or less atypical. Ribs 1–7 are called as true ribs since they have separate cartilage connections to the sternum.
