Concept explainers
To explain: The three different processes that occur during a sexual life cycle that increase the genetic diversity of offspring.
Concept introduction: Sexual reproduction increases the genetic diversity thatenables organisms to survive better in the unfavorable environment. Genetic diversity mainly arises due to the shuffling of chromosomes during the meiosis process. Different combinations of chromosomes at metaphase 1 of meiosis occurring in the gametes are one process leading to the genetic diversity. Crossing over during prophase Iincreases the chance of producing a new combination of genes by exchanging chromosomes.
