In each of Problems
(a) Determine all critical points of the given system of equations.
(b) Find the corresponding linear system near each critical point.
(c) Find the eigenvalues of each linear system. What conclusions can you then draw about the nonlinear system?
(d) Draw a phase portrait of the nonlinear system to confirm your conclusions, or to extend them in those cases where the linear system does not provide definite information about the nonlinear system.
(e) Draw a sketch of, or describe in words, the basin of attraction of each asymptotically stable critical point.

The amount of salt in tank A at t = 25 minutes if initially, 100 lbs of salt is dissolved in tank A and 50 lbs in tank B and assuming that tank C contains fresh water and that the mixture in each tank is kept uniform by stirring. 4 gal/min Pure H₂O 100 gal A 4 gal/min 150 gal B 4 gal/min 100 gal C 4 gal/minarrow_forwardConsider the following system of coupled second-order equations, x + 4x1 = x2 x2 + 4x2 0. Re-write this system of second order equations as a system of first order equations. Compute the solution for the initial condition x1(0) = 1, x1(0) = 0, x2(0) compute the (complex) Jordan normal form for the system. Note: you should find that the solution grows linearly in time which is indicative of a resonance in the system. = 1, x2(0) 0. Thenarrow_forward
