ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) is known as an open standard API (Application Programming Interface) used to access the database using application programs.

  • It allows the programmers to instruct different DBMS products which use ODBC statements.
  • These instructions are translated into the API using “ODBC driver” for particular DBMS product.
  • The driver translates the result into a form which was derived from the DBMS and, a part of this standard.
