Chapter 6, Problem 6.82P
Interpretation Introduction

(a)

Interpretation:

Based on the understanding of charge stability, it is to be determined which of the following compounds is expected to have the most similar pKa value to that of formaldehyde.

Concept introduction:

Table 6-1 refers to various compounds and their Ka and pKa values. Based on the structural similarities in compounds listed in Table 6-1 and their functional groups, chemical behavior of a compound is estimated or predicted. The acids with structurally similar conjugate bases will have similar pKa values.

Interpretation Introduction

(b)

Interpretation:

The pKa value for formaldehyde is to be estimated based on the concept of charge stability and the reference to Table 6.1.

Concept introduction:

pKa value represents the strength of an acid. The lower the value, the stronger the acid. Structural similarity in conjugate bases of two compounds indicates that the pKa values for the two compounds must be in the similar range. The chemical behavior of a compound is governed by the functional group it possesses.

PLEASE READ!!! I DONT WANT EXAMPLES, I DONT WANT WORDS OR PARAGRAPHS FOR THE MECHANISM!!! THANKS First image: QUESTION 6. I have to show, with ARROWS and STRUCTURES, the mechanism of the reaction at the bottom. Also I have to show by mecanism why the reaction wouldn't work if the alcohol was primary. I also tried to draw the mechanism, tell me what to change. Please note that its an AMIDE thats formed not an AMINE the nitrogen has ONE hydrogen and one Phenyl-C-Phenyl. I already asked for this mechanism and got as a final product ...-NH2 not whats shown on the picture, thank you Ths second part. QUESTION 3. I just need a way to synthesize the lactone A, I already started please continue from where I left it  Second image: I simply need the products, substrates or reagents, thank you
