Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
The pressure of the gas inside the apparatus needs to be determined.
Concept introduction:
The given apparatus is an open end manometer. In this manometer; if the open end arm has Hg level more than the arm attached to the gas it indicates that the gas pressure in the flask is greater than the atmospheric pressure.
Hence gas pressure = atmospheric pressure + △h
Here △h = Difference in heights of the mercury in manometer
If gas pressure is less than atmospheric pressure; we need to subtract △h.
Hence gas pressure = atmospheric pressure -△h
