For the reaction of ethyl iodide with triethylamine [(CH3CH2)3N:], the structure of the product is to be suggested.

Concept Introduction:

Ethyl iodide is a primary alkyl halide and undergoes SN2 reaction.

The triethylamine [(CH3CH2)3N:] acts as a nucleophile. The nucleophile attacks the carbon from the backside of the CX. When a new bond between the nucleophile and the carbon is forming, the bond between the carbon and the leaving group breaks.

The product formed will be soluble in polar solvents such as water if the product itself is a polar compound.

Polar compounds are soluble in polar solvents while they are insoluble in nonpolar solvents.
