Chapter 54, Problem 14TYK
Summary Introduction

To review:

The characteristics of ideal farm animals grown as food for humans.

Introduction:

Plants are producers that produce food by photosynthesis. When herbivores feed on these producers, nutrients and energy are transferred from producers to herbivores. Carnivores feed on herbivores, and the energy and nutrients are transferred to carnivores. Herbivores and carnivores are the primary and secondary consumers.

Imagine that you wish to compare two types of feed that will be fed to laying chickens kept in two different chicken pens on the same farm. Both types of feed are made of the same grains, but come in two forms - pellets and crumbles. Pellets are the standard feed you have been using, but you believe crumbles will be digested more efficiently, and result in chickens laying more eggs. You set up an experiment. In your experiment you keep all other factors, such as the number of chickens per pen, the age of the chickens, the amount of food and water, and the type of chicken (all are Rhode Island Reds) the same. The chickens in Pen A are given pellets, and the chickens in Pen B are given crumbles. a. What is your hypothesis? b. What is your prediction? c. What will you be measuring to test your hypothesis? d. What is the independent variable? e. What is the dependent variable? f. What variables are being controlled? g. What group is your experimental group? h. What group is your control…
Select a theory or concept from biomechanics and discuss how you can apply it when having a job as a physical therapist. a) which biomechanical theory is used? b) how will this concept specifically relate to a physical therapist's job. (Use specific examples: what you would do, instructors on how to set up drill, rehab or classroom activity.) c) why you feel this is important to a physical therapist?
a) Does the data support your hypothesis?  b) How could you improve this experiment? Consider the other factors you could have / should have controlled in this experiment.
