Explanation The adaptive immune system is composed of different types of lymphocytes. These are: B-cell lymphocytes: B-cell lymphocytes have the ability to differentiate into other types of cells called plasma cells. This conversion of B-cells into plasma cells occurs when B-cells encounter an antigen. The plasma cells release antibodies that bind to invading pathogens and destroy them. Cytotoxic T-cells: The cytotoxic T-cells require activation molecules such as an antigen. They are generally present in an inactive state. They get activated by interacting with the antigens that are bound to the plasma membrane. Cytotoxic T-cells destroy the cancerous cells.
