Summary Introduction

To describe: The functions of different steroid hormones and also indicate where these hormones are produced in the mammalian body.

Introduction: Steroid hormones are lipid derivatives which consist of carbon rings and side chains that are synthesized from either fatty acids or cholesterol. Testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone are bound to specific transport proteins in the plasma membrane. Steroid hormones bind to receptors present in the nucleus of the cell.
