Whether the bond between two atoms of the same element can be polar, or not, is to be determined.

Concept Introduction:

Dipole forces exist between polar molecules, which depend upon the polarity of the molecules.

Polar molecules attract each other, whereas, non-polar molecules do not.

Polar molecules do not mix with non-polar molecules.

Molecules having one highly electronegative atom form permanent dipoles which creates strong attractive forceswith similar molecules.

In some polyatomic molecules, the polar bonds cancel each other.
