Decker Cosmetics produces a lip balm used for cold-weather sports. The balm is manufactured in a single processing department. No lip balm was in process on May 31, and Decker Lips started production on 20,000 lip balm tubes during June. Direct materials are added at the beginning of the process, but conversion costs are incurred evenly throughout the process. Completed production for June totaled 15,000 units. The June 30 work in process was 30% of the way through the production process. Direct materials costing $5,800 were placed in production during June, and direct labor of $3,400 and manufacturing
Requirements
- 1. Draw a time line for Decker Cosmetics.
- 2. Use the time line to help you compute the total equivalent units and the cost per equivalent unit for June.
- 3. Assign total costs to (a) units completed and transferred to Finished Goods and (b) units still in process at June 30.
- 4. Prepare a T-account for Work in Process Inventory to show activity during June, including the June 30 balance.

- Bordner Company manufactures HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems for commercial buildings. For each new design, Bordner faces a 90 percent learning rate. On average, the first unit of a new design takes 600 hours. Direct labor is paid 25 per hour. Required: 1. Set up a table with columns showing: the cumulative number of units, cumulative average time per unit in hours, and cumulative total time in hours. Show results by row for total production of one unit, two units, four units, eight units, and sixteen units. (Round hour answers to two significant digits.) 2. What is the total labor cost if Bordner makes the following number of units: one, four, sixteen? What is the average cost per system for the following number of systems: one, four, or sixteen? (Round your answers to the nearest dollar.) 3. Using the logarithmic function, set up a table with columns showing: the cumulative number of units, cumulative average time per unit in hours, cumulative total time in hours, and the time for the last unit. Show results by row for each of units one through eight. (Round answers to two significant digits.)arrow_forwardHarriman Industries manufactures engines for the aerospace industry. It has completed manufacturing the first unit of the new ZX-9 engine design. Management believes that the 1,000 labor hours required to complete this unit are reasonable and is prepared to go forward with the manufacture of additional units. An 80 percent cumulative average-time learning curve model for direct labor hours is assumed to be valid. Data on costs are as follows: Required: 1. Set up a table with columns for cumulative number of units, cumulative average time per unit in hours, and the cumulative total time in hours. Complete the table for 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, and 32 units. (Round hours to one significant digit.) 2. What are the total variable costs of producing 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, and 32 units? What is the variable cost per unit for 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, and 32 units?arrow_forwardCity University uses a process cost system to accumulate costs incurred in handling student applications in the admissions department. Rene is working with the operations manager to determine what the standard labor cost is for a spice chest. He has watched the process from start to finish and taken detailed notes on what each employee does. The first employee selects and mills the wood, so it is smooth on all four sides. This takes the employee 1 hour for each chest. The next employee takes the wood and cuts it to the proper size. This takes 30 minutes. The next employee assembles and sands the chest. Assembly takes 2 hours. The chest then goes to the finishing department. It takes 1.5 hours to finish the chest. All employees are cross-trained so they are all paid the same amount per hour, $17.50. A. What are the standard hours per chest? B. What is the standard cost per chest for labor?arrow_forward
