The heart is a muscular organ of the cardiovascular system, which pumps the blood (both oxygenated as well as deoxygenated) to the lungs and to all the parts of body. In mammals such as humans and birds, the heart is four-chambered, that is, the upper half called the atria is divided into left and the right atrium and the lower half called the ventricle is divided into right and left ventricles.
