Introduction: The nerve impulse conduction is based on the difference in the ion concentration and electrical charge across the membrane. The plasma membrane of the neural cells is semipermeable and is responsible for maintaining the difference in the cation and anion concentration across the cell membrane. The difference between the electric charges across the inside and outside surfaces of a cell membrane is called potential difference. The movement of the ions is dependent on the electrochemical gradient. K⁺, Na^+, and Cl^- regulate the flow of signal across the neurons.
