Question
Chapter 47.3, Problem 3EQ
Summary Introduction
To determine: The predictions related to the body weight of db and ob mice when they are parabiosed with one another.
Introduction: In 1970, a Canadian-American researcher, Douglas Coleman, performed a series of experiments for revealing a satiety factor in mammals. The researcher was interested in knowing the interesting facts about the regulation of body mass of animals. He used two mutant strains (db and ob) of mice and one wt (wild-type) mice during the experiment.

Regions of NSW were recently impacted by increased populations of mice. Mice first
reproduce from 6-8 weeks of age, then breed every 3 weeks.
Warfarin is a poison used in mice baits. Over a 4-year period, data was collected about the
percentage of Warfarin-resistant mice in the population. Warfarin was used during Year 2.

What is the role of the Riftia tube worm’s hemoglobin in the success of the tube worm–endosymbiont mutualistic relationship?
The pesticide DDT was widely used in the 1940s as a method of insect control. In
the late 1950s the first DDT-resistant mosquitoes were discovered, and
eventually DDT-resistant mosquitoes were found globally. When DDT is used
now, the development of DDT resistance in mosquito populations occurs in
months rather than years.Which of the following best explains the observations
concerning DDT resistance in mosquitoes? *

The proportion of DDT-resistant mosquitoes in a population remains constant due to
the metabolic costs of DDT utilization
DDT is a chemical signal that delays normal reproductive cycles in many mosquito
populations.
Natural selection favors DDT-resistant mosquitoes that are already present in a
population when DDT exposure occurs.
Competition for limited resources causes mosquitoes to migrate to geographical
areas that have richer supplies of DDT.
