Summary Introduction

To explain:

The role of endosymbiosis in the development of eukaryotic cells.

Introduction:

Endosymbiosis is a hypothesis that explains the evolution of eukaryotic cells like mitochondria in animal and fungi and chloroplast in plants from the prokaryotes. The mitochondria and chloroplast show similarities to the bacterial cells. They have their own DNA and nucleus and are capable of producing protein machinery.

One of the ways for a cell to generate ATP is through the oxidative phosphorylation. In oxidative phosphorylation 3 ATP are produced from every one NADH molecule. In respiration, every glucose molecule produces 10 NADH molecules. If a cell is growing on 5 glucose molecules, how much ATP can be produced using oxidative phosphorylation/aerobic respiration?
