Chapter 40.4, Problem 3RIA
Summary Introduction

Fungus is categorized into different categories on the basis of the site it first enters the tissue to initiate disease. Fungal infection is called Subcutaneous mycoses when it enters the bloodstream by direct penetration into the skin usually through traumatic injury. The fungus first remains dormant and localized for a certain period of time and then slowly spreads to connecting cells and tissue and finally to the lymphatics. Most of these are confined to tropical region but some spread in temperate region as well. Fungus grow in soil, leaves, and organic material and are introduced in the skin by traumatic injury of the skin.
