Introduction: The hypothalamus is a small region in the brain located near the pituitary gland. When outside temperature declines, thermoreceptors in their skin send action potential to the hypothalamus; the brain region is responsible for thermoregulation. A signal from the hypothalamus causes vessels that deliver blood to the skin to contract, so less metabolic heat reaches the body surface.
