We can see from the given grain boundary figure that the grains are just at a offset distance of one Burger vector $b$ or repeat distance which is for twice the spacing $D$. Therefore, the apparent angle $\theta$ of a tilt boundary is:

  $\sin \left(\frac{\theta }{2}\right)=\frac{b}{2D}$.
