Introduction:
Root hairs have a large surface area and they consist of a large number of membrane proteins. This brings nutrients into the cytosol of the root cells. The membrane proteins are unable to import the ions, which are required by the plant. Therefore, they often function in tandem with another protein that is known as a proton pump.
