Introduction:
There are as many as several million functional units known as nephrons, depending on the size of a mammalian kidney. The filtering process begins at a region of the nephron called the renal corpuscle, where a filtrate that is free of cells and proteins is formed from blood. The rate at which the filtrate enters Bowman's capsule is called glomerular filtration rate (GFR).
