Chapter 36.3, Problem 2SB
Summary Introduction

To review:

The development of the angiosperm embryo and the structural differences between monocots and eudicots.

Introduction:

The development of the zygote in higher plants into a mature seed through a series of different events, occurring during a particular duration of time, is known as plant embryogenesis. At the end of the embryonic development, the embryo contains major components like hypocotyl, root meristem, shoot apical meristem, root cap, and cotyledons. When immature embryogenesis occurs, the plant lacks most of its structure such as stem and leaves and has a defective reproductive system.

Sketch a seed of a gymnosperm and of a monocot. Label the embryo, seed coat, and nutritive tissue (giving its specific name). Indicate the ploidy of each structure (haploid, diploid, or triploid).
