Chapter 36, Problem 1ITD
Summary Introduction

To review:

The experimental variables in the given germination experiment.

Introduction:

The germination percentage in context of KAR (karrikins) for seeds is observed in mutant plants A. thaliana (also named as gal-3), in the given experiment. The selected plants do not synthesize gibberellins (GA). The set of seeds are exposed to different concentrations of GA in the imbibing water and different observations are made for ABA (abscisic acid)-deficient plants. The seeds of mutant ABA-deficient plants are provided with ABA-supplement and the ABA-deficient seeds were not provided with supplement.

Phytochrome, plays an important role in flowering in many plants.  It can also be used to determine when lettuce seeds germinate (shown in the figure below What is phytochrome likely doing in the lettuce seeds?       Activating abscisic acid production     Activating inhibitors of germination     Inhibiting gibberellin synthesis     Turning on germination-related genes
Ginger undergoes three (3) stages of Growth. Name and describe the these stages from Germinating stage to time for harvesting
Green mangoes were freshly harvested from tree and buried in a jar of uncooked rice to accelerate ripening process. During storage, the fruit colour has changed to yellow. Explain the principles behind this ripening process by relating to the fruit tvne and identify the phytohormone responsible for this ripening process. (i) Suggest another simple method to expedite the ripening process with another fruit of the same type. Marks will be awarded for the correct type of materials (fruit), method and experimental set up (temperature and space). (ii)
