Concept introduction:
The supportive structures that develop during the embryonic period are the placenta, umbilical cord and four thin layer extra-embryonic membranes. Umbilical cord is the structure that arises from the placenta. Placenta is the structure that connects an embryo to the mother’s body. Amnion, yolk sac, allantois and chorion are the thinextra-embryonic membranes that support the embryo during development.
